What we learnt from the Gladiator Heroes live Facebook chat

More levels, a new combat system and lanistae with wild imaginations; those are just some of the things we took out of our first live developers chat, held in the Gladiator Heroes Players group on Facebook this week.

The one-hour chat gave Spanish fans the chance to ask questions, send feedback and share their ideas for the future of the game.

“We were absolutely overwhelmed by the positive response”, said César Ríos, lead game developer, “Player feedback is an important part of how we design the game.”

For those of you who didn’t take part in the chat or just don’t understand the language, never fear; we’ve got a breakdown of the whole thing right here.

Multiplayer, multiplayer, multiplayer

The multiplayer system is a topic that lanistae are serious about. The ability to fight in real time, join clans and exchange resources with other players was a suggestion that came up multiple times.

Well, there’s good news for those of you who like a bit of teamwork; there are plans in the pipeline that will allow lanistae to fight alongside (and against) other gladiators in clans, as well as exchange materials and chat with other players.

It was also revealed that the next update, which will arrive to your iOS and Android devices sometime next week, will include a new prize system, with your winner’s bounty changing depending on the level of the multiplayer combat. These prizes can then be used in a new, fixed city building, which we will explain further on.

More levels to keep your Gladiators fighting

While they won’t come with the next update, sometime within the next few months we will be adding up to 70 new levels to the map.

The new combats will see lanistae send their gladiator to gushing waterfalls, seaside ruins and an other-worldly, suspended lair; where you can defeat your opponents by pushing them off the edge, or activate the ‘stone feet’ skills to stop them from pushing you!

If you’ve already made it to level 79, the last combate currently available on the main map in this edition, the next update will come with another combat system.

As a rival lanistae moves into your territory, you can take on his fighters in varying difficulty levels. The higher the level, the better the prize, and these prizes, just like in the new multiplayer system, can be used in a special new shop…

New gladiator types

While the next update will introduce a new, rival lanisate impeding on your city limits, the developers have future plans to incorporate both sexes into all gladiator classes. That means male dual weapons fighters, and female sword and shield, two-hands and spear gladiatrices.

Future updates could also come with the possibility of facing wild animals and mythical beasts in combat, rather than just other gladiators.

The keys to the treasure chest

So you’ve had a go at the new combat and multiplayer systems, and now you’ve got wooden, silver and golden coins on your hands. What to do? These battle prizes can be used in a new, fixed merchant shop in your city, where you can purchase chests of varying quality levels.

Our lanistae will echo in eternity

With so many ideas for new updates being thrown around our developers’ studio, feedback and ideas from our players are so valuable; they help us sort the golden nuggets from the dirt.

So here’s a word of thanks to our fans, our players, and every lanista currently training up his gladiators for glory – you are what makes Gladiator Heroes better every day.

Why your Feedback on Gladiator Heroes Matters to Us

Whether you’re an avid mobile gamer or just an occasional fan, sending feedback to big gaming companies can often feel like talking to a brick wall. Do they really care what I think about a game? Are my ideas noticed?

From its very conception, Gladiator Heroes has been developed and improved based on user feedback.

“When initial players said: ‘we want multiplayer’, we added multiplayer”, recounts César Ríos, development team lead for the game, “When they said they wanted a forge, we added a forge”.

Several updates have been planned for the coming months before the global launch, all based on the feedback and ideas of our users.

“We’re really open for everyone to propose changes or improvements in the characteristics of the game ,” adds Ríos.

Of course, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing since the game was first started over two years ago.

Our small team – just four programmers and four artists – have had to develop several patches to fix bugs and errors in the game. Right now, they’re working on a solution for some users whose quarries aren’t producing stone.

“We really regret any inconveniences caused,” says Adrián Mesa, game programmer, “Being a small team, new patches sometimes take time”.

“As soon as we find a solution, we will publish a patch to correct this bug.”

There is a solution, however, for Android users who’ve been stuck on a loading screen with clouds while trying to access the missions map.

“Got to to the options menu in the city; the first option when opening the dropdown,” Mesa explains, “Go to graphics, and set shadows as ‘off’, then try to access the map again.”

This Thursday, February 23 at 4pm, our developers will be chatting in the Gladiator Heroes Players Facebook group; answering user questions directly and in real-time.

From feedback on art, to gameplay, to problems with the game and finally taking out the Undertaker, we’re inviting fans to chat with us – and each other – about their thoughts on the game, hopefully creating a better experience in future.

Is there another Gladiator Heroes update on the way?

We’re dropping a few hints on some big changes headed your way…

We know, we know… you’re still recovering from the last update, which was packed full of new features such as a weapons ranking system, multiplayer replay and the forge. But what if we told you that there is another, even bigger update heading your way?

That’s right, in the next few weeks our development team will be dropping yet another update for Gladiator Heroes, and this one includes a new building, new battle types and new prizes.

Without giving too much away, we can tell you that multiplayer as you know it will be completely revolutionised. The new multiplayer system, which will be kept under wraps until the update is launched, will give you more options, more opponents, and different prizes.

Back on the regular map, we’ll be adding an extra layer of combats which will allow you to win a different sort of prize. What are these prizes, you ask? We can’t tell you… but let’s just say they have something to do with a new, fixed building coming to your city soon.

There’s also new, rival lanista infringing on the boundaries of your city… and according to some passing travellers, his fighters are unbeatable.

We’re also giving you more control about when and how you collect bonus resources for your city.

The last Gladiator Heroes update had players rushing to repurpose old weapons in the new forge, a building that allows you to improve weapon statistics. The armoury ranking system was also overhauled, meaning that you gladiators need to reach certain levels to utilise their corresponding weapons.

Plus, we gave you the ability to rewatch multiplayer battles that took place while you were logged out of the app.

These updates are part of a series that we’ll be launching in the lead up to the global launch, set to take place within the next few months.
